Image settings and options

Useful tips for inserting and uploading images to your WordPress blog using BlogPad Pro and the settings which can save you time whenever you add a photo.

Image size:

You can control the size of your image either by adjusting the image width and height fields or by using the % slider underneath the image preview.

If the lock proportions tab is set to ‘ON’ the photo won’t be able to get squashed to the wrong aspect ratio.

Hi Res versions of images:

When you add a new image from your camera roll the image will be uploaded at the size you set in the image width and height fields (above). If you would also like to upload a hi res version of your image turn the ‘Upload Hi Res Image’ option to ON.

Next to this option you will also see a ‘Link to Hi Res Image’ option which automatically links the image in your blog post to a hi res version. If you don’t check this option the hi res image is just uploaded into your media library for future reference.

You can control the maximum size of your hi res images in Settings > Media-related Settings > Maximum Image width (pixels) and Maximum Image height (pixels). You can see a screen shot of this below:

Setting your default image size:

It’s useful to know the maximum image size your blog theme can handle, otherwise images can end up being cropped, squashed or breaking your page layout.

So that you don’t have to manually set your image width each time you add a new image simply tap on the green settings button (bottom left).

Scroll down to the bottom of the ‘General Settings’ list and you will see some new options:

  • Default Image Width (pixels)
  • Default Image Height (pixels)
  • Autosize new images in Post/Page

blog settings screen

If your WordPress theme can only fit images with a maximum width of 550px, you can set Default Image Width to be 550 and the turn ‘Autosize new images’ in Post/Page to ‘On’.

Now whenever you add a new image from your camera roll it won’t be bigger than your theme can handle.

Note: The image re-sizes to fit the smaller of the width and height options, so if you’re only concerned about the maximum image width make sure you set your Default Image Height to something quite big (i.e. 900 px) or a portrait-oriented photo will be sized according to the maximum height setting instead.

Syncing your WordPress posts and resolving conflicts

How to sync your posts and pages in BlogPad Pro once you have been working offline.

If you have been working offline or without an internet connection with BlogPad Pro you will need to sync your posts and pages once you get back online again so that all your hard work gets uploaded.

Similarly, if you have been working via the WordPress Dashboard, you need to update BlogPad Pro with those changes. You can read more about this here.

When you are working offline and you save a post or page, it saves the post locally to your iPad and you will see a message like this one:

Syncing and resolving conflicts in BlogPad Pro

This tells you that your post or page has been saved on your iPad. Your post will now be marked with a yellow ‘Sync Required’ button in the list of posts (see below).

You will also notice a yellow notification badge next to the ‘Posts’ option in the menu with a number 1 in it, this tells you how many posts you have edited on the device but need syncing.

When you are back online and ready to upload your changes, tap on the ‘Sync’ button and from the ‘Post Sync Options’ menu select ‘Upload Posts to Live’ .

Conflicts and how to resolve them

If the post you are uploading has been edited in the web browser or on a different device since you went offline this will create a conflict, as shown by the red ! icon (below). You can also see that there is a red notification badge on the ‘Posts’ menu option which shows you how many conflicted posts you have.

Syncing and resolving conflicts in BlogPad Pro

This symbol indicates that both the local copy and the online copy of that post have BOTH been edited. To resolve this tap on the post in the list and in ‘Post Options’ select ‘Resolve Conflict’.

Syncing and resolving conflicts in BlogPad Pro

This launches a screen which shows you both versions of the post and highlights the areas which have been changed with a red border. You can see in the screengrab below that the content is different and is highlighted.

I have found this app to be simply amazing. Very well designed and very easy to use. The support team is also super quick to respond to any questions. I have nothing but positive things to say!
Best WordPress App on the market! ★★★★★
by hayesben40 – Version 1.2 – Feb 3, 2013

I have tried several WordPress apps and this is by far the best! The developer has went to a great details to ensure that the layout of his app is as user friendly as possible. I can easily sit back with my iPad and carryout many functions on my WordPress from the comfort of my iPad. If I could rate this higher than 5 stars I would! I would recommend anyone who has a WordPress site to buy this app! Another thing that is important. The developer is always looking at features that can be added to his app. He is very quick to respond to any questions / queries that I had. This is something that I look at before buying an app. Keep up the good work on this app guys!
Absolutely HANDS DOWN – the BEST WP blogging app ★★★★★
by k8chan – Version 1.2 – Jan 31, 2013
I have tried numerous apps – even the WP free blogging app (which is horrendous, IMHO, and unstable – posts don’t always update/post with THAT app – not this one!,etc.) This app has it all: -ability to work offline -link to multple WP blogs (including my wordpress.com AND a self-hosted WP blog) -easily supports and links with camera photos/uploading is a snap -SUPERIOR SUPPORT STAFF (I cannot say this enough – really!) Not only have I purchased this app for my personal iPad at home, but I am working to use it (if WP will figure out how to let 165 high school students log in/out frequently in the course of one school day) with my class set of iPads (35). Students (even my very non-tech savvy kids) are finding this app *very* easy to navigate and learn from. (Their biggest hurdle is really just blogging lingo like “headline photo” (or something like that). It’s so easy to scale imported images, etc as well. Today my students were able to create their first blog posts and some of them struggle with email – let alone typing on an iPad – it was great fun to have them take pictures of each other, edit/crop off heads (keeping it safe, ya know…lol) and start their writing projects about clothing/etc in Spanish (foreign language classroom). There is SO MUCH to love about this app. I cannot more highly recommend an app and am looking forward to using it to blog more frequently myself when I can catch a breath from my high-learning curved high-tech classroom. While the price point might make your finger hesitate before clicking purchase, trust me when I say this: This app is worth more than any other app. The interface, the ease of use, the offline capabilities (traveling? no problem…crappy wifi connectivity? no worries!), the SUPPORT staff and the seamless writing time. I don’t have to dink around with settings, I can just write. If you want to BLOG and you use WORDPRESS this is the App you are looking forward. You won’t regret it. Thank you for such great product. I’m looking forward to following your developments in the future.
The best ever ★★★★★
by a.a.d6 – Version 1.2 – Jan 17, 2013
I have tried all the blogging apps including the official WordPress app but each one has had some flaw that made it less productive and efficient. This app supersedes them all with features and has none of the flaws. I am so excited to have finally found the perfect blogging app for all my WordPress blogging needs. The latest update and big fixes make this worth a rating update to a five.

Wonderful ★★★★★

I love the look and feel of this app and had a few suggestions for additional functionality and bug fixes. The developer was friendly, quick to respond and open to my ideas. It is great to find a developer willing to incorporate feedback from their customers! I love the latest update!

Fantastic app and support ★★★★★
by Rockz642 – Version 1.1 – Dec 24, 2012
When I first downloaded this app, it wouldn’t connect to my website (nothing to do with the app – faulty code on my site). I contacted support and I got a prompt reply, telling me that the error was on my site and giving me tips to find it. He even gave me the line of code which was breaking the site. After finding the code and deleting it, the app works amazingly. It connected quickly and downloaded all the files. The features are great and it really is worth buying. I haven’t found anything wrong with it at all. In conclusion, great app with amazing, friendly customer support. Just what everybody needs. I’ll definitely be using this from now on and recommend it to anyone.

New features in BlogPad Pro version 1.1

I’m delighted to announce we’ve just launched BlogPad Pro version 1.1 which has some great new features as well as some bug fixes.

You can now browse, search and add YouTube videos straight into your WordPress blog posts as well as being able to add video files from your media library on self-hosted blogs. You can read more about how to do this in our tutorial here.

Add video to your WordPress blog with BlogPad Pro

We’ve also added a few extra options in settings, including being able to set a default size for any new images you insert – which should save you lots of time when creating long blog posts. Just set the default width to the maximum size for your WordPress theme and no more cropped or squashed images! You can see our tutorial on this here.

You can now also insert links to different file types which appear in your media library, including Pdf files, Word documents, Excel, PowerPoint and OpenDocument text documents. Just browse to the item in your library and tap ‘Insert link to file’. You can also add links to video files which aren’t embeddable in a web page such as wmv files.

To update your copy of BlogPad Pro just tap here and select ‘Update’!

Can I use BlogPad Pro to edit my Blogger, Tumblr, Posterous, TypePad, Drupal or Joomla blog?

No. At the moment the BlogPad Pro app is only available for WordPress.com and WordPress.org (self-hosted) blogs. We may build in support for other blogging platforms in future releases, this depends on the customer feedback we get.

Let us know which blogging platforms you use and which you would like to see included in our iPad app!

Can I add photos when I’m blogging offline?

Yes, you can add photos from your iPad’s camera roll or from your WordPress media library* when blogging offline using BlogPad Pro.

When you’re connected again you simply sync your blog (or upload the post you were working on) and any new photos will get added to your online WordPress media library.

Please note: You can’t add an image from URL when you’re offline.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

*Only a small number of media library items are downloaded when you add your blog to BlogPad Pro.  If you want to be able to browse all items in your media library while you’re offline you will need to sync and download the library before you go offline.

Should we also connect the app to social media sites so you can retrieve your photos from there? Let us know which sites you use for photos and whether this feature is important to you for future versions of BlogPad Pro.
